The Shattered hope...
‘Pitter Patter, Pitter Patter’ the heavy rains poured down, as young Carla rushed through the busiest of her days in the thriving campus .It began like any other hectic day, but little did they know what they were going to hear. Cautiously carrying a few of her books in one of her hands, she rang up Chloe, her younger sister. ‘Are you there yet?’, she doubtfully asked Chloe, and the answer was as expected, ’No!’. Carla hung up the call with a loud yell. Chloe on the other hand, was getting carelessly ready to attend a college webinar. She had been trying for months now, after she finished her 12th, but life wasn't fair to her as always.
A few hours later, they got a message from the post office that said, ’You have a letter from Washington, USA, and it has been delivered to your old address’. Carla, stood shocked. She couldn't believe her own eyes, because the only person whom they know from Washington is their father. The same father, their only family, who hadn’t spoken for 5 years, 8 months and 22 days.
Carla couldn't contain her excitement, She again rang up Chloe, but this time she busted out with glee as she spilled the marvelous news. “We got a letter from father Chloe! Come fast to our old house!”, she exclaimed. Chloe happily abandoned her webinar and restlessly ran to their old memorable home like a hound on the loose. They were desperate and were longing to read the letter from their father.
They both quickly arrived at their old house. The wind blew the dust that lay scattered all across. The fading dim sky mourned upon the old, rusty house, that lay abandoned like themselves. The floors coughed up the dirt upon their shoes. They entered through the creaking door ’creek kkk’, and they recalled those days in their childhood with their father. Carla touched the withering walls, and the wall spoke of those days when she piggy backed on her father along the once lively walls. Chloe sat on the trembling cushion, recalling her memorable fights and times with her dad.
Now it seemed very obvious, on how scattered their family was, how lost they all were, like the letter that came from afar. Their hearts longed for the letter. They looked everywhere around and inside the lifeless house for the lost letter, and couldn’t find it. “Where could it possibly be?”, yelled Carla, having lost her patience. Suddenly, Chloe excitedly said," I found it! I found it! I found the letter Carla”. Carla’s eyes turned towards Chloe. This was the moment they had been eagerly waiting for. Chloe hurriedly ripped open the letter.
On the aging cushion, they both sat, filled with hope that their father might return back home. Although their fate was something else. Carla’s voice shivered with fear, as she read the letter and Chloe’s eyes were filled with tears. The letter was from their father's colleague. They were left in dismay hearing that their father had faced an unexpected death. A pain striked through their heart like lightning. They could not contain their tears. A feeling of loneliness and hopelessness took over their dreadful heart. They could not embrace the pain. It was not acceptable. For Chloe and Carla, life was not fair anymore. ‘Pitter Patter Pitter Patter’ the rain poured again, but only this time, there was no hope.
